Women who Inspire - Kennedy Lowery

Hello Love! I’m Kennedy Lowery, Principal Artisan at Live By Being. Live By Being was born of my own wellness journey with self-care and how I used it to transform my life. In 2017 I hit a wall with stress. I was a seasoned professional in the Real Estate Development Industry, and that meant high stress, long hours. I felt I needed to find a way to bring balance and peace into my life. Childhood memories of bubble baths and how grounded I always felt in the tub sparked an idea for a weekly bath ritual. I fell in love with taking time for me and myself all over again. I discovered that just by taking a few moments each day for myself, the day became in fact less stressful. Not only that, but one self-care ritual led to many others transforming my diet, workout routines, and ultimately my entire lifestyle.

Born of French Creole and West African ancestry, I’ve always had an appreciation for ritual and the healing arts of apothecary, handcrafting bath and body products for myself for years. I decided then that I wanted to share my experience with the world in hopes to inspire others to find some time for themselves and in doing so, perhaps redefine their daily life in a way that feels most authentic and more peaceful for them. Live By Being was born of this inspiration in 2018.

Today I work out of an apothecary studio in Houston, Texas with a team of 3. Live By Being’s products are sold on Amazon Handmade, Etsy, and in a small curated collection of like-minded boutiques and spas throughout the US. All products are handcrafted in small batches and the company values like being eco-friendly and cruelty-free still ring true and are at the heart of what we do. BEINGfostered, my brand’s social mission, is a commitment to donate a portion of every product sold to non-profit organizations that cultivate self-efficacy in current/alumni foster youth through programs/services that celebrate their resilience and provides resources to assist them in becoming independent and self-sufficient. As a former foster youth myself, I know first-hand that there is an unimaginable need for programs and services that cultivate self-efficacy, self-love, and self-care, in addition to teaching the importance of independence aftercare.

As I evolve in my self-care journey, I look forward to bringing more unique and intimately crafted rituals to market, and expanding the brand’s product offerings to incorporate my belief and experience of self-care as a mind, body, and spirit, or whole BEING experience. I’ve learned a great deal in Entrepreneurship 101 and what not to do along this journey.  But as a Creative I have the joy of understanding the art first then the business. My biggest lesson has been that the most important aspect of running a company is to always remain true to the integrity of the brand’s values and mission. In doing so you can handle whatever comes your way from a position of strength and clarity.
