Kate's Full Skincare Routine
I have to start off by saying that there is going to be a lot of information in this post! Because I personally test all of the products sold at Shimmer before they hit the shelf, I have ended up with more skincare products at home than any one person reasonably needs. I have my go-to products that I use regularly and then I have a bunch on hand that I use during certain seasons or when my skin is experiencing something out of the norm. I am in no way suggesting that everyone have 50 skincare products available to them at all times!
I have a very minimalist approach to skincare, despite the amount of information that is about to be listed in this post! My best advice is to keep in mind that your routine will need to be flexible. You skin will change depending on the weather, what you’ve been eating, hormones, and any number of factors, so your skincare will need to change as well.
Cleanser
The cleanser I keep going back to and make sure to always have on hand in the One Love Organics Botanical B Cleanser. I am a huge proponent of oil cleansers because they’re great multipurpose products. Oils get much deeper in your pores, giving you more than just a surface clean, but it hydrates your skin instead of stripping it and it’s a makeup remover. So on night’s when I’m feeling lazy, I just wash quickly with this and call it a night. I typically use this both in the morning and at night, but again, sometimes when I’m feeling lazy at night, I skip my routine altogether!
2. Serum
The One Love Organics Vitamin C Facial Serum is my favorite Vitamin C Serum of all time. It’s gentle enough for even sensitive skin types and can be used twice a day. I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin when I’ve had to stop using it. I didn’t even carry another Vitamin C serum in the shop until recently, when I brought in a slightly less expensive option. Trust me, this one is SO worth it. One pump is all you need and your skin will be protected from environmental factors all day and brighter in no time.
3. Moisturizer
I’ve said it from day one, The One Love Organics Skin Dew is my cannot live without product. I have dehydrated skin and this was the first moisturizer than finally addressed that. I refuse to give up my piping hot showers in the morning, even though I know how harsh it is for my skin. I used to get out of the shower feeling super tight and uncomfortable and after just a few uses of the Skin Dew, I’ve never had that problem since. Plus, it layers really well with other products and is absorbed super quickly. No lingering product here!
4. Exfoliant
This is not an every day product. For my skin, I know I have to exfoliate in the Winter every two to three days and in the Summer, I can go down to once a week. I can tell when I’ve gone too long without exfoliating because I notice flaking in the driest parts of my skin and my makeup doesn’t sit as well on my skin. For years, I exclusively used the Lola Jane Naturals Cleansing grains. They are super gentle and my top recommendation for sensitive skin. One Love Organics released their Brand New Day Scrub last year and I’ve been hooked ever since. For me, my skin is not sensitive and I like that this product is ready to put directly on your skin without adding water.
5. Sunscreen
The most important thing you can be putting on your skin is sunscreen! Am I great about using it every single day, though? No. I have, however, become much better about it since RMS beauty released their new SuperNatural Radiance Serum with SPF 30. This product is skincare and makeup in one and can be used two ways! Worn alone, it’s giving you your sun protection for the day, a dose of peptides and niacinamide and a subtle tint that evens out your skin tone and makes your skin glow without having to wear makeup. I wear it almost every day under my makeup and it also acts as a great primer. Foundation will not budge with this stuff as its base! If I’m spending the day in direct sunlight for an extended period of time, I put on any of the Kinfield products and I have never burned once since using them.
Honorable Mention
Indie Lee Restorative Eye Cream - This is a product I keep around primarily for preventative reasons. The powerhouse ingredients in this formula are excellent for holding off those fine lines and wrinkles and I really love the texture. It’s a lightweight, almost fluffy formula that feels so luxurious on. Do I always remember to put it on, though? No. During our recent Instagram Live, Indie shared with us that this product is great to spread the extra between your brows for added wrinkle protection.
2. One Love Organics Love + Eyebright Eye Serum - The rollerball on this product makes this a game changer for puffy days. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I do wake up with puffiness in the under eye area so I grab this bottle from the fridge and the cold rollerball combined with the lightweight, flavonoid-packed formula instantly makes eyes less tired looking.
3. Makeup Erasers - These cleansing cloths really work like magic and are the ultimate lazy day hack. I don’t know how they do it, but they’re like magnets for your skin. Just add water and watch all your makeup and dirts and oils from the day melt away. When I really don’t have the energy to do anything, I just quickly rinse with this before bed.
4. ESW Beauty Sheet Masks - Sometimes you notice your skin could use a little something extra, so a sheet mask is a great quick fix to have on hand, especially if you have a big event coming up or just need a self-care night. I started testing the new Fall collection a few weeks ago, so I’ve been grabbing for the Spiced Glow mask the most.
Let’s Break it Down
One Love Organics Botanical B Cleanser - Usually twice a day, sometimes once, sometimes I don’t bother
(I sometimes switch to the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser in the Winter if my skin is looking a little dull)
One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum - Every Morning
One Love Organics Skin Dew - Every Morning and Night
(In the Winter, I sometimes mix in the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Overnight Cream when I need something heavier. It lingers a little more on the skin, but I only use it before bed so it’s fine.)
One Love Organics Brand New Day - Once a week in the Summer, Two - Three days a week in Winter
Sunscreen - almost every day. Definitely if I am spending time outside.
Eye-care products - I can’t say I’m terribly consistent with this. Sometimes I use it every morning for weeks. Sometimes I forget. Sometimes I find that I remember more to use it at night. The One Love Organics Eyebight Rollerball is fantastic to have on hand for puffy mornings and works right away. The Indie Lee Restorative Eye Cream I use to prevent lines in the future, but I do not stress out if I forget it sometimes!
Oils and Serums - I do play around with different kinds all the time. You’ll know when your skin needs a little extra boost of hydration. I do also really love the Indie Lee Squalane Oil and Earth Harbor Naturals Celestine Plumping Serum.
Add Ons - I love masking as a form of self-care or to use when my skin needs a little something extra. I tend to use them more in the Fall and Winter. Sometimes I go weeks without any at all!
