How to Incorporate New Products Into Your Routine

If you’re looking to incorporate a new product into your routine, it’s probably because you’re either experiencing an issue you’re looking to solve or it’s because you’re bored with what you’re currently using. Either way, it can be a bit scary to try something new. You may be worrying that it’ll make your problem worse, bring on a new problem or just not live up to the hype and be a huge disappointment. Here are some things to keep in mind when trying out a new product for the first time.

  1. Patch Test - This is particularly important for anyone with sensitive skin. If you’re worried that you’ll have a reaction to a new product, the best thing you can do is test out a small amount on the inside of your write or thigh. We know it’s tempting to dive right in, but trust us! Better to have a red patch on your wrist than on your face.

  2. Be Consistent and Patient - Almost no product is going to give your instant results. You may find a new exfoliant that gives you instantly smoother skin, but beyond that, most products take a few weeks to really work their magic. This is different from not liking the way a moisturizer feels on your skin. You won’t actually know if that product is hydrating your skin until you give it some time. Check in after about a month and if you’re still not loving it then, it’s time to move on.

  3. Don’t try too many new products at once - You don’t want to find yourself in the position where you’ve tried 6 new products, had a reaction and now you can’t figure out which one caused it. Ease yourself in, even if you’re just giving yourself one day in-between.
